How is the Odorox®/Pyure technology different than other systems on the market?

• Odorox®/Pyure eliminates odors not only in the air, but more importantly, the odors that have been absorbed deep inside the contents and structures. As a gas, hydroxyls will follow the same paths that the odors did and reach all hidden and hard to reach areas.

• The oxidants produced are not damaging to anything so you can easily treat sensitive materials like leather, rubber, electronics, plastic, artwork, wet items, etc.

• It's simple to use. Just plug in the machine and turn it on. That's it. No chemicals, no filters, no oils, no masking agents, no fogging, no spraying, etc. No additional humidification required. Yes, it's really that simple.

• Odorox®/Pyure equipment produces hydroxyls, which is what the earth uses to naturally clean its atmosphere by neutralizing odors, bacteria, disease, etc. Ozone generators, ionizers, chemicals and other devices all create complicated and dangerous side effects to your health and only mask problems, not eliminate them.

• Hydroxyls are extremely reactive and are the second strongest oxidant in the world behind atomic fluorine – far more effective than any other odor solution on the market. This means they will eliminate more odors and VOCs than ozone, chlorine dioxide, foggers, masking agents, oils, and all other chemicals.

• There are no residual odors left behind and odors will never “come back”. Once they are eliminated, it is permanent.

What is a hydroxyl?

Hydroxyls (OH) are molecules consisting of one oxygen atom and one hydrogen atom. They are safe, naturally occurring molecules that are created in our atmosphere when the sun’s ultraviolet rays react with water vapor. They play a critical role in cleaning the earth’s atmosphere and are often referred to as the "detergent" of the atmosphere. They can be used to kill bacteria, viruses, and mold, and to break down volatile organic compounds (VOCs), chemical fumes, gasses, vapors, and unpleasant odors. They are more effective than ozone, chemicals, ionizers, fog gers, filters, masking agents, and oils. When used as instructed, they do not harm people, pets, plants, or sensitive materials like rubber, plastic, leather, electronics, wet items, or artwork.

How does the Odorox®/Pyure equipment produce hydroxyls?

Through the use of patented ultraviolet (UV) technology, Odorox®/Pyure replicates the natural production of hydroxyls to completely eliminate biological and chemical contaminants. Ambient air is drawn through the irradiation chamber of the machine where finely tuned UV optics break apart humidity (H2O) to form hydroxyls. Nothing additional is needed for the technology to operate - no chemicals, no filters, no supplemental humidifiers, etc.

How long does it take to eradicate most odors?

In most cases, there will be a significant improvement in several hours and certainly after only 24 hours. Difficult fire and smoke or odor jobs, however, should take three to four days to complete.

What is the coverage area for these units?

Is Odorox®/Pyure UV equipment easy to use?

Yes! Simply plug it in to a standard 120 volt power supply, turn it on and let it run. They run on less than 2 amps of power and cost less than .50 cents per day for power. The machines are tough, portable and light weight.

Is Odorox®/Pyure UV equipment safe to use?

Adapted from the medical field, Odorox®/Pyure equipment is certified as completely safe. It is UL certified. People, pets, plants, food and electronic devices can remain in the area during operation. It leaves nothing behind but fresh air.

Does the Odorox®/Pyure UV equipment produce Ozone?

First and most importantly, the success of the Odorox®/Pyure technology comes from the formation of Odorox®/Pyure hydroxyl molecules, not ozone.
The characteristics and functionality of hydroxyls are in fact substantially different than ozone evidenced by:
• The ability to deodorize while you dry with no bleaching or (hydrogen) peroxide effect.
• The ability to treat leathers, rubbers, elastics, documents, and fine art which cannot be treated with ozone.
• Hydroxyls are lighter than air, Ozone is heavier than air.
• Hydroxyls are non-corrosive, Ozone causes corrosion

We have conducted a number of internal and independent “real world” tests for “possible” ozone emissions. In the most recent independent testing each of our machines were tested for ozone emissions in a room of approximately 410 sq ft (3,690 cu ft) and another of 682 sq ft. (9,548 cu ft). The measurements were taken with a Draeger CMS direct-reading instrument and appropriate detector chip. The minimum detection limit using this technology is 25 parts per billion. The Slim line, Oasis, MDU, Boss, and Boss XL3 were all tested. The tests were conducted over 2 hour periods. Only the Boss unit registered detectable ozone emissions. The measured amount of ozone for the Boss unit was 40 to 45 parts per billion, less than ½ of the OSHA allowable limit. The measured amounts of ozone for the Boss were approximately the same in both the smaller and larger space. From this study an inference was also made that levels remain static and do not accumulate over time (non-accumulative).

It should be noted that it is not yet possible to accurately measure ozone emissions from our machines, because current measuring devices cannot distinguish between ozone and our more effective hydroxyl molecule. At least some, if not a large portion, of the measured value for ozone concentrations is actually “a false positive” from hydroxyls. The manufacturers of these measuring devices have confirmed the inability to accurately distinguish these molecules.

HGI continues to investigate new technologies to accurately distinguish between ozone and hydroxyls. Until such time as more accurate measurement instruments are available it is our recommendation that the Odorox®/Pyure hydroxyl generators are deployed in “occupied spaces” per our application guidelines. The XL3 and Boss are heavy duty odor eradication machines intended for restoration applications and are to be used along with supplemental air movement and exchange. Current application guidelines provide that these instruments should be used in “occupied” areas greater than 500 sq ft. A full line of Odorox®/Pyure models are available for home and business use.

Recently I've had the chance to see the hydroxyl machines in action in two claims that we worked on together and I have to tell you how impressed I am that these machines actually do what they claim.

First there was the liability claim at the 15,000 square foot office building in Cambridge that was under construction. Our insured was doing some work in the building and accidentally started a small fire. Smoke went throughout the building and since the drywall was all new it had not been sealed or painted yet. Although there was very little soot deposit, odour was the bigger problem. We were faced with the real possibility of having to replace the drywall at a cost well over $150,000. Even to Kilz paint it would have been in excessive of $80,000. There was also an exposure related to income loss if there were delays in the completion of the building.

The hydroxyl machines that you recommended and used on this claim did an amazing job of removing the entire smoke odour to everyone's satisfaction and in a mere seven days and at a cost of under $30,000! The construction workers were even able to continue to work while the machines were running.

The second claim involved a diner inside a local bus terminal. There was a small electrical fire in the storage room. The sprinklers put the fire out but smoke went throughout the storage and kitchen areas. Again odour was the bigger problem once the water clean-up was done. PDS put in a hydroxyl machine for two days to eliminate the smoke odour. A few weeks later I met with our insured who commented that not only did the smoke odour disappear but so had the odour of the grease. He was very pleased with our claims service and PDS.

I certainly will be asking other contractors to use this equipment in other claims involving odours. I'm confident that it works really well and the potential for saving money is huge.

To Whom It May Concern:

This past holiday season, I experienced significant smoke damage in my home from an electrical malfunction in my oven, which occurred when running the oven cleaning cycle on a timer in the middle of the night?it appeared that the thermostat had stopped working, and the oven temperature just kept rising and rising. When the smoke detectors went off, I wakened and opened my bedroom door on the second floor and saw nothing but smoke in the hallway?I could not even see downstairs. There were no flames, just heavy smoke.

The smoke had traveled throughout the first and second floor of my home. A strong odor was detected in the air, and it went into all the closets on both floors, affecting most of the clothing in them. I opened the windows in the home to get cross ventilation and waited outside until sufficient smoke at exited so I could go back into my home. At that point, what remained was a foul odor from the smoke, which was from the protein in the oven as well as some of the plastic surrounding the oven.

The next day, when I went to a meeting, several people in the meeting noticed the smoke odor on my clothing and asked if I had been in a fire. This was an uncomfortable situation to say the least, as I was expecting to host family during the holiday season, not to mention the embarrassment experienced in client meetings. Anxious to remedy the odor problem I contacted Odorox Air Technologies (OAT) in Basking Ridge NJ to see if their Odorox equipment might be able to help my situation.

The guys contacted a local Paul Davis restoration firm, who agreed to operate the Odorox hydroxyl generators at my home to assist in the clean up. Felipe Rodriguez ("Phil") from Paul Davis Restoration & Remodeling followed the instructions given to him by Odorox personnel, and in a matter of just a few days successfully removed the smoke odor from my house (most of it had dissipated after just one day). Paul Davis had installed three of the Odorox machines on the two floors as well as a number of fans to move the air through the house.

Besides the obvious benefit of eliminating the smoke smell, I appreciated not having to leave my home during the clean up process?that is because the clean-up process does not use any ozone, which would not have been safe to be around..

It also was interesting to note that the local Maryland Paul Davis folks, having not heard of this hydroxyl technology, were very skeptical of its ability to work. When they came and installed the equipment (shipped to them by Emerald), they said that they could come back the next day with their own equipment to take out the smoke that the Odorox equipment didn't do. When they came back the next day, they were truly amazed at how quickly most of the odors had already been removed much faster than through their more traditional methods they became believers literally overnight. And given that this technology did not require that I vacate my home and dry clean my clothing, treat carpet, etc., they were more than impressed.

Unrelated to the smoke damage, Phil found some mold in my basement (it was from a water leak a few months earlier). I had mentioned that the Odorox equipment could kill the mold spores as well. So once the smoke cleanup was done, and following consultation with the Odorox personnel, I moved one of the Odorox units on the job to my basement to deal with the mold. I am pleased to report the mold is gone with the help of the Odorox and additional clean-up from the restoration crew.

As a business owner and building professional who works with commercial and institutional facilities managers facing odor, mold and other indoor air quality issues threatening their companies, I can say with a great deal of confidence that the Odorox hydroxyl technology will eliminate these types of problems faster and with less disruption and at a lower cost than other previously available means.
